Regional landscapes, animals and people are all depicted in her oil paintings on wood panel, as Laura Larabee paints them using minute detail and clarity. “I like to show not only the natural world, but the human influence as well. Many times I choose to show how landscapes are worked by humanity only to have it revert back to nature over time. This process is somber and quiet, and I want my paintings to reflect that emotion by the use of my color and brushwork.”
Laura Larabee was raised on a farm near Sabula, IA. She graduated from Cornell College with a degree in art and education, and has shown as an artist since. Some of her awards include being one of the winners in The Artist’s Magazine’s competition twice, National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society National exhibit, Oil Painters of America National exhibit, two exhibits at the Cedar Rapids Art Museum, and one exhibit at the Figge, Davenport. The Cedar Rapids Art Museum also owns one of her paintings. Laura resides in Monticello, Iowa with her husband, Phil. She has two grown daughters, Eva and Rachel. Laura also operates and co-owns Gravert’s Apple Basket Orchard with her mother, Diane, at the family farm in Sabula.
